Not sure which got it working but as I'd tried the display settings reset numerous times previously with no luck could it possibly be putting the 3D TV to port one that worked?Īnyway since I initially got the PS3 to recognise the 3D TV it now works everytime regardless of what port on the splitter is used or what state the other TV's are in. Eventually after trying everything I unplugged all HDMI's from the splitter except one from PS3 and to 3D TV still nothing so moved TV HDMI to port one on the splitter and reset the display settings to auto (which it was already set to beforehand) on the PS3 and it started working. At first PS3 wouldn't recognise a 3D TV was connected no matter what I tried (other TV's on / off even HDMI leads unplugged).

So did a bit of testing with a free 3D trailer on the PS3. Although it states an additional piece of kit is needed for this function that's not included so not sure if total cost would be beneficial but it would save running an extra cable for IR as it sends it through the HDMI cable If you have yet to buy your HDMI splitter it might be work considering this one which has built IR distribution. Also worth considering if the IR extender will support it is to use an IR blaster inside the cabinet rather than separate emitters on each component. CAT6 cable can also be used to extend your IR receivers so no need to spend extra on 3.5mm jack extension cables and 30m runs should be no problem, I have an emitter on a 25m run and it works faultlessly. Also my Amp is wired seperately so the speakers are direct back to the amp rather than from the TV, that way there's no need for a HDMI cable from the amp, this also allows me then to have a 5.1 speaker set up in 2 rooms through a home made speaker switch from just one amp.Īnyway getting back on topic. Perhaps if you are running your cables in CAT6 a may be a good idea to run extra cables (if they are hidden) to allow for future expansion.
So I have a splitter for each item and no need for the switch. My set is perhaps a bit more complex as I have multiple HDMI leads running to each TV so for instance the PS3 can be used in the Conservatory whilst the cable box can be viewed simultaneously in the Living Room or/and Bedroom. Note: if you are only wanting to control the sky box there is no need for the omnilink as the magic eyes will work directly with the sky boxes RF out socket. If you are running a coax to each TV anyway then they can be connected to that although you may need an amplifying splitter for the signal that supports magic eyes pass through. Split the coax (or whatever cable you decide to use) into three where it comes out of the omnilink and attach the magic eye at each TV end. Then you either run a length of coax cable from your cabinet to each of the TV's to link them or you could use RCA phono cables with suitable adaptors as I have (any two core cable should work). I have a similar set up to what you describe and the cheapest working way I found was to use an omnilink and two extra magic eyes (or this if you also need an extra Sky remote). For a three room set up you would need three receivers (one for each TV). The problem you'll have with both the kits you've linked to is that they both have only one IR receiver.
